County Fair | Market Chickens

We bought fifty Cornish Rock Cross chicks from a hatchery in Cincinnati. I took the girls and their friends to go get the chick on June 1st; they were just a day old. We had them for eight weeks before they were processed. Emma and Ana each took a pen of three market chickens to the county fair. Cameron built a chicken tractor and we had that at our friend’s farm. The girls went every morning to feed them, change their bedding, give them fresh water and make sure they were okay. Unfortunately we lost eight when they were a couple of weeks old due to a leaky waterer and they got too cold overnight. Lesson learned.

The chicks are very cute when they are little but they sure are ugly during their “teenage weeks”.

County Fair 2022 | Pollurum Testing

All poultry entered in the county fair that was not born in 2022 has to have a pollurum test. Our egg layers were born November 1st so we had to take them to get tested. It took a long time. They got a prick onnknenof their toes and drew a blood sample to get tested. Ana was trying to cover her chicken’s eyes so she wouldn’t notice the procedure. Ha!

Camila | My Chicken

Camila is my chicken. She is an Americana and she lays blue eggs. She is the crazy one of the bunch. Camila likes to jumó the fence and lay her eggs in random places. She is so tamed that she lets you hold her like a baby. She also drives me crazy because she likes to get in the patio furniture.

July 2022 | Adios a los Abuelos

After two weeks of my parents visit, we had to say goodbye. We hope to see them for Christmas.

July 2022 | Hidden Valley Orchard

July 2022 | Mei Mei’s Birthday

July 2022 | Shrimp Boil

Our friends the Maddoxes had been telling us about the shrimp boils and we just had to get together to have one. We invited a few families from church and it gave the opportunity for my parents to experience something new.

Jessica Maddox and I did all the prep work. I think that’s what took the longest.

July 2022 | Hiking Caesar’s Creek

We all (minus Job, he was visiting friends in Michigan) went in a short hike to Caesar’s Creek.

July 2022 | Abuelos Visit

After two and a half years my parents were finally able to come for a visit. It was their first time seeing our new house in person and the first time that Emma was taller than my mom. My brother Job came along; the girls enjoyed speaking Spanish with gringa accent with him. We went to Kings Island. My dad and Ana rode all the big roller coasters.
