Wellspring Church - Chili Cook Off

For the second year in a row, Emma and her friend Shealyn won our church’s chili cook off! There were around twenty different chilis. There were four prizes awarded: kids’ choice, adult 1st, adult 2nd, and adult 3rd. Emma and Shealyn’s chili got a total of 15 votes. The girls were very excited to win again!

Red amaryllis

I’ve had this amaryllis for about four or five years. It was a gift from aunt Jan’s friend when she came over for Thanksgiving.  This is the first time that it has flowered with four blooms! It looks beautiful!

First Try at Raised Bed Garden

Cameron has done research in raised bed gardens, square foot gardening and small farm gardening. Back in our old house, after being there for ten years, the soil in our garden was light and fluffy. Full of nutrients added by our compost pile.

Our soil in our new house is clay! We will have to get sand and some top soil for the raised beds (which we got in Amazon almost two years ago and just now got them out of the box). We started a compost pile when we first moved here but I don’t think it is quite ready yet. Maybe it will be in May when it is time to plant. Otherwise we have friends that have cow and horse manure.

Sunday was a gorgeous day and we turned the soil for the first raised bed. We decided to have the garden outside the fenced in area. The chickens will be free ranging in a few months and we don’t want them eating our garden or digging the plants out. They certainly love to do that. We’ll see how it goes.

Valentine’s Mailboxes

The girls worked hard on this year’s Valentine’s Day mailboxes. Emma’s was a Minion and Ana’s an animal shelter. Beautiful!

Murder Mystery Dinner

Cameron booked one more thing to celebrate my birthday: a murder mystery dinner. It was held in Covington, KY at a hotel overlooking Cincinnati and the Ohio River. We were joined by three other couples (friends of ours) and we had a great time.

At the end we did figure out who the murderer was. I even told the lady she was my prime suspect. Ha!

Dinner at Sueño

We have been twice to the Mexican restaurant downtown Dayton and both times we have been very pleased. My mother-in-law says im a snob when it comes to Mexican food and I agree. That’s why we don’t really eat out at Mexican restaurants.

Last night we went out with our friends Dan and Allison. All the kids were with their grandparents and we had such a fun time.

At  Sueño we ordered Sikil P’ak, sopes, tacos de cochinita and lamb birria. I was hesitant in ordering the birria because I didn’t want to be disappointed. I wasn’t! It was excellent.

Birthday Party

We were joined by friends and family to keep celebrating my birthday. A birthday celebration couldn’t have been complete without a piñatas and excellent food: birria, tongue tacos, charcuterie board and lots of yummy sides. We had two piñatas: one for the kids and one for the adults.
