Making Tamales

A good friend from church really wanted to learn how to make tamales. I invited her over and warned her that it is labor intensive but a lot of fun. Because she wanted to learn the entire process, it took a little longer than in previous years. I typically have the pork meat ready to go with the Chile sauce says in advance. This year I just had the meat cooked and shredded.

Emma and Ana are pros at making tamales and I can see they take pride in their work. I love seeing them help in the whole process as much as I enjoy them eating them.

Karla, my Peruvian friend and neighbor also wanted to learn how to make tamales so she joined the fun.

Making Cookies

Girls can follow a recipe and they did an amazing job making these sugar cookies for Christmas. Emma made the glaze all on her own. She even added the food coloring and put the glaze in individual baggies so they could decorate them. We also had buttercream frosting and of course girls wanted to add sprinkles to those cookies as well. We watched Titus for a few hours and of course he had to decorate at least one cookie!

Wearing Saree to Church

We are blessed to have two Indian families at our church. I have admired their beautiful kurtis and sarees and today several of us ladies wore them to church. I watched a dozen videos on how to wrap the saree. It is such a beautiful skill that requires lots of practice and safety pins. Emma and Ana wore kurtis.

Home Economics - Sewing Pillowcases

Nancy came over to teach the girls and two little friends how to sew pillowcases with only three seams. The pillowcases are perfect Christmas gifts.
