Resurrection Sunday

We studied 1 Corinthians 15 at church this morning: Christ’s resurrection. Beautiful verses filled with truth and hope.

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Emma Turns 14!

Yesterday we celebrated Emma; she turned 14! She took the day off from school and started her day with pancakes and bacon for breakfast. We then had lunch at Old Scratch Pizza, went shopping, visited our friends the Edmonds, shopped some more (Cameron is very patient when he goes shopping with his three girls, ha!) and finally went to Graeter’s for ice cream.

Sunday we will have the official birthday celebration with the rest of the family and friends.

Celebrating Aunt Jan’s Birthday

We had a birthday lunch for aunt Jan at Catch a Fire Pizza. The girls (especially Ana) wanted aunt Jan to try the Cincinnati Chili pizza. It didn’t disappoint her. Along with the carb-loaded pizza, we also had one that was more traditional with prosciutto and sausage. After lunch we headed back home where aunt Jan opened presents and we enjoyed the cake that the girls made for her. We had a great time.

Mario - Piñata

Titus holds a very special place in our heart and we consider him (and his family) as our family. Titus turned six last week and the party was all about Mario. Making a Mario piñata has been the easiest of all the ones I’ve made him (monster truck, banana, and Chase from Paw Patrol).

My inspiration came from a piñata I saw in a candy store in Mexicali a couple of years ago:

I’m glad we had so many cardboard boxes to form the body:

I still used engrudo (mixture of cooked flour and water) and newspaper to make it sturdier, add texture and make the nose and ears:

The face had to be big enough that it looked like a cartoon:

Finding the right shade of skin color tissue paper was the biggest challenge:

The hat was a coffee carrier from Bob Evans that I modified:

Here's the finished product:

Titus was very excited when he saw the Mario piñata.

We added the candy and goodies in its head and in its body.  We realized Mario lost its eyebrow; I later found it that night in the back of my car. Ha!

The kids had a blast and we love seeing Titus so excited.

Birthday Celebrations

I am blessed to have had two birthday celebrations. I was surrounded by family and friends. First celebration was lunch at The Golden Lamb with Nance and aunt Jan. We had a great time and I believe Emma and Ana enjoy going to the gift shop more than the food. I’m never disappointed when we eat there. The food was delicious.

The Thinegars, our friends from church, hosted a dinner party at their house. Cameron smoked pork and chicken for the party and different families brought delicious side dishes. Emma made my birthday cake - a peanut butter cake and it was delicious! My friend Allison made me a pumpkin cheesecake that was amazing! I was hoping for cheesecake leftovers but it was wiped clean. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures with all those that were at the party…only with Aryelle.
