Since we got married in October of last year, Cameron and I have been traveling almost every month. We are fortunate that Abilene is only a few hours away from large cities such as Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.
Dallas
We've been to Dallas on various occasions. Matt and Jenny Douglas have always welcomed us into their home every time we visit them. It is so much fun to see Cameron play with our niece Isabelle and our nephew Aaron. They are lovely kids and Cameron always has a blast playing with them (Aaron uses Cameron as a boxing bag or as his wrestling buddy and I enjoy playing more lady-like games with Isabelle). Here's our lovely niece and me at a college football game (North Texas vs. Navy):
Here's Aaron during Isabelle's birthday party (she turned 7 in June). Matt set up an inflatable water slide in their backyard; the kids enjoyed it so much and the weather was perfect:
Jenny, our sister-in-law, has the gift of baking and was able to bake this beautiful cake for Isabelle's birthday party. It is a mermaid sitting on a rock:
San Antonio
Our first visit to San Antonio was back in January to celebrate my birthday. Cameron did an excellent job planning the trip. We stayed on the Riverwalk in a recently renovated historic hotel and saw Broadway's musical Camelot.
Our second visit to this wonderful city was in March. We were there specifically to see another Broadway musical, this time it was The Phantom of the Opera. The show was amazing! After reading the book and watching the movie, the musical was something that I always wanted to see and my wonderful husband granted me that wish!
The latest visit was in May for Memorial Day Weekend. We visited the Japanese Tea Gardens and Six Flags. We had a great time riding all of the roller coasters and we even got to ride our favorites twice!
Here are some pictures of the Japanese Tea Gardens (the name changed to Chinese Tea Garden after WWII due to the anti-Japanese sentiment; the original name was restored in 1983):
Austin
Our visit to Austin is still pending; we hope to visit Texas's state capital by the end of the summer.
