Charleston, SC | Walking Around + Cathedral

 While in the carriage tour we were pointed out lots of churches. After an amazing lunch at Fleet Landing we decided to visit some of these churches. Only John The Baltist Cathedral was open and it was gorgeous. The amount of detail that went into the inside of this church

is astounding.

We stopped by Queen Street Grocery to get kambucha.

This is the Unitarian Church. It was open when we were on the carriage tour but closed when we walked there. It is known for its gothic revival style and fan vaulted ceiling.

Our friend Amie told us to eat as many pralines as possible. We needed the sugar rush after our delicious meal at Fleet Landing.

The Museum at Market Hall is located above the City Market. We didn’t go in but admired it’s really tall doors.

We went to Half Moon Outfitters on King Street because Cameron was looking for a specific brand of pants. He didn’t find them but I found this t-shirt with this print. I thought it looked like the Mexican actor Cantinflas. 

Charleston, SC | Fleet Landing

 Aunt Jan, who has been to Charleston, recommended various restaurants including Fleet Landing. Cameron and I shared lunch because we were going to have a fancy dinner later in. We ordered fried green tomatoes with crab salad and shrimp and grits. What a treat!

Charleston, SC | Carriage Ride & City Market

We were advised to take a carriage ride and to specifically look for “the big red barn”. We walked from our hotel to PalmettoCarriage rides. The barn was very clean and everything seemed well organized. Our tour guide Jason was very knowledgeable and had fun anecdotes to tell. We were surprised when Jason first told us he didn’t know what route he was taking us. We thought he was joking but it was the truth. The route for every carriage tour is determined by the city’s “bingo” machine. Once we made our stop to this bingo machine and got our route, we headed towards our tour. It was fantastic!

A lot of old buildings have these circles in their façades. It turned out to be rods screwed into the buildings to prevent structural damage due to earthquakes.

The Charleston City Market was fun to visit. It reminded me of our own “Second Street Market” but in a much larger scale. 

I was very excited to see these baskets. They are locally made with sweet grass that grows in the marsh. They are very durable and somewhat heavy.

The Charleston Shoe Company had really cute sandals and shoes. I turned one over and it had the “Made in Mexico” seal. I asked the vendor where in Mexico they were made and she said San Miguel de Allende. 

 

15 Year Wedding Anniversary | Charleston, SC

 Last week on October 20, 2022 Cameron and I celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary. Cameron planned our anniversary trip to Charleston, SC and it was amazing. 

We stayed at Fulton Lane Inn; right in the historic district close to shopping and restaurants. 

Our plane from Cincinnati to Atlanta was huge: nine seats per row. 

Our suite at Fulton Lane was really pretty and the bathroom had a jacuzzi and bidet!

Our first meal in Charleston was dinner at 167 Raw, a restaurant across the street from our hotel. I had the best swordfish sandwich and Cameron had the tuna burger. I didn’t take food pictures. I was hungry and exhausted! Ha! 

Happy Birthday Babe!

 The girls wanted to make Cameron’s birthday cake so they asked him for his favorite choices. Among them he requested chocolate salted caramel cake. After researching a few recipes, the girls opted for a Martha Stewart recipe. The cake was really good and beautifully made. 

We enjoyed celebrating Cameron’s birthday with our family. 

Visiting LST-325

We had the amazing opportunity to visit the LST-325 in Cincinnati yesterday with our homeschool group. This Loading Ship Tank was part of D-Day in the invasion of Omaha Beach (Normandy, France). The part that game me chills was comparing the pictures of our group going into the ship and the picture of German prisoners exiting the ship in June 1944. 

What a great piece of history we got to experience today.
